If there’s a national poster child for hard right, slash and burn fiscal policy these days it’s the state of Kansas. Led by Governor Sam Brownback, Kansas has passed huge income tax cuts and reduced state revenues with the stated intention of stimulating an economic revival.

Unfortunately, for Kansans, no such result has ensued. Instead, the state has been forced to wrestle with large and repeated budget shortfalls while economic growth has remained tepid. Meanwhile, massive revenue losses has led to continued state funding cuts to core public investments – public schools, colleges and universities, and healthcare services.

If any of this sounds familiar, it should. Though perhaps, not as far along the road as Kansas, North Carolina is in the midst of a similar policy experiment that has thus far produced similar results.

Join us as we explore the situation in Kansas and its cautionary lesson for North Carolina in a very special Crucial Conversation luncheon with two leading experts from the Sunflower State, former Kansas state representative and Budget Director Duane Goosen and Annie McKay, Executive Director of the Kansas Center for Economic Growth.

When: Tuesday, April 21, at noon — Box lunches will be available at 11:45 a.m.

Where: Marbles Kids Museum, 201 E. Hargett St. (corner of Hargett and Blount streets) in downtown Raleigh
